- Manage contacts and negotiations concerning the EIB operations handled by the Division (within and outside the EU), working with documents subject to numerous jurisdictions and with counterparts in several countries.
- Provide advisory legal support across all stages of the lending value chain, draft and finalise contracts, complete all related legal formalities and legal monitoring (including restructuring and other post-signature events), often with the assistance of external counsel.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new products and innovative financial instruments, including credit enhancements, risk sharing facilities, subordinated loans and quasi-equity financings, and market subscriptions.
- Contribute to the development of standard legal documentation for the bank's operations and to the sharing of knowledge on legal documentation for the Bank's products.
- Contribute to the development and evolution of contractual and operational policy.
- Liaise with external consultants and supervise their work.
- Support the implementation of new initiatives and mandates in EIB lending operations.
- Conduct legal research and keep up to date with legal developments in legislation, regulations and jurisprudence, to maximise knowledge and offer informed legal advice.
- Develop and maintain relationships within the Bank and represent the EIB externally.
- University degree in law (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor).
- Professional legal qualification (past or current admission to a bar association, either in a common law or civil law jurisdiction).
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in the field of banking and finance acquired with a reputable law firm or in-house legal function (including within a financial institution, asset manager, or large corporate group).
- Experience in the area of structured finance, trade finance instruments, including under the OECD arrangement would be an advantage.
- Significant experience in the drafting and negotiation of finance and/or equity documentation in English is required. Ability to work in French would be an advantage.
- Excellent knowledge of English and/or French(***), with a good command of the other. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage
