maintain Sompo International as a desirable place to work.We are seeking a Compliance Officer based in our Luxembourg office and reporting to the Sompo International
Chief Compliance Officer (based in New York). This individual will be responsible for leading the compliance
function of Sompo International in the EU Region where Sompo International is currently expanding in several
additional countries with strong growth plans. The Compliance Officer will interact with senior management
across multiple jurisdictions, business units and operations both in the EU and UK offices, and globally. There
will be travel required to other Sompo International office locations.Responsibilities include:1. Help ensure the Sompo International local country entities maintain ongoing regulatory compliance with
applicable laws, rules and regulations, including the maintenance, development and or harmonisation of
necessary policies and procedures.
2. Assist with maintaining and enhancing the existing corporate compliance program in the EU region and ensuring
Sompo International is in compliance with local laws and regulations and help building out policies, processes
and procedures to align with Sompo International standards.
3. Collaborate closely with the Sompo International European-based Legal team, global Legal & Compliance
Department and other business units (Management, Underwriting, Multinational Team, etc.)
4. Implement and oversee a best-in-class compliance framework and coordinate reporting and/or ensure local
offices report as required.
5. Provide compliance support to Senior Management and key functions in Continental Europe as the business
expands and growth anticipation.
6. Undertake compliance monitoring across EU region.
7. Act as the main point of contact for compliance issues as and when they arise in the EU region.
8. Assist in updating of the annual compliance monitoring plan.
9. Communicate with regulators as necessary and remain abreast of regulatory developments of impact to Sompo
International.
10. Provide a day-to-day point of contact for compliance queries from Company branch offices.
11. Assist and coordinate regional compliance training.Desired Skills & Experience:
10+ years' experience in insurance industry compliance and regulatory affairs is preferred within a global
insurance organisation.
Preferably a law degree background and experience in interpreting laws and regulations.
Well-organised with an ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment and meet internal and external
regulatory deadlines.
Team oriented and able to work collaboratively and effectively with business clients and other legal
department members.
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and a strong work ethic with an ability to
work independently or as part of a team.
Possess excellent English language skills, and proficiency in one of the following languages: German, Italian,
French and/or Spanish is highly desirable.
