The is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character. The (FSTM) at the University of Luxembourg contributes multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences and Medicine.
Through its dual mission of teaching and research, the FSTM seeks to generate and disseminate knowledge and train new generations of responsible citizens in order to better understand, explain and advance society and environment we live in.The Department of Engineering (DoE) is a dynamic, interdisciplinary group engaged in civil, electrical and mechanical engineering, driving forward innovative research and solutions. It also has an internationally leading profile in computational science and engineering. We develop cutting-edge technologies, promoting the sustainable and economical use of resources, and meeting the technological demands of Luxembourg, the Greater Region, and beyond. Nearly all research projects are supported by a network of national and international partnerships, several with public or industrial stakeholders. At the University, the Department cooperates across faculties and with the interdisciplinary centres. In particular, the new interdisciplinary centre focused on complex environmental systems opens up significant opportunities for future collaborations.Your roleWe are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to advance the understanding of the mechanical properties of cemented carbides, with a particular focus on the influence of various binder systems at elevated temperatures. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Developing an experimental strategy to investigate the main parameters influencing the mechanical properties of the cemented carbides.
  • Conducting the previously defined experiments in university and industrial laboratories, as well as in collaboration with academic partners.
  • Exploring and optimizing simulation tools such as CalPhad to support experimental findings.
  • Conducting in-depth metallographic analysis and establishing correlations between mechanical properties and microstructural features.
  • Developing innovative research concepts and contributing to the scientific direction of the group.
  • Mentoring of PhD students and supporting their academic development.
  • Participating in educational activities within the department.
  • Analyzing and interpreting experimental and simulation data.
  • Collaborating with industry partners to translate this relevant research into solutions for the real-world.
  • Disseminating your findings through high-impact scientific publications and presentations at leading international conferences and workshops.
This project is embedded in the CERATIZIT Chair for Hard and Advanced Materials, a newly established, dynamic research group focused on solving industrial challenges through groundbreaking material science.Your profile
  • PhD in Material Science or a closely related field
