- Setting up, configuring and maintaining laboratory equipment and experimental testbeds, including real-time digital controllers, power processors, and communication networks for smart grid experiments.
- Supporting the deployment and integration of new devices, sensors, controllers, and power converters as part of ongoing research projects.
- Assisting in the preparation, execution and monitoring of laboratory experiments, ensuring all setups meet safety and operational standards.
- Collaborating closely with researchers and engineers to adapt the laboratory environment to the evolving needs of projects, including configuring digital platforms, updating software licenses, and preparing test scenarios.
- Helping to implement, connect and troubleshoot digital communication systems (wired/wireless) and interfaces between devices.
- Participating in the documentation and organization of experiment data, equipment inventories, and software/hardware configurations.
- Contributing to the development and programming of simple control routines, test scripts, or measurement setups as required by ongoing research.
- Taking responsibility for the proper organization and safe use of laboratory resources, and promoting good laboratory practices within the team.
- Supporting the preparation of technical reports, operational procedures, and user guidelines for the laboratory.
- Staying up to date with new technologies and equipment relevant to the lab’s mission, and contributing ideas for their evaluation and adoption.
- A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in electrical engineering, industrial automation, electronics, or a related technical discipline.
- Additional training or certification on power environment operations, or power electronics will be considered an asset.
- Hands-on experience working in electrical or electronics laboratories, ideally with exposure to systems automation and advanced experimental setups (e.g., based on Typhoon, dSPACE, National Instruments, OPAL-RT, etc).
- Knowledge of configuring and maintaining digital controllers, measurement systems, and data acquisition equipment (e.g., PLCs, RTUs, smart meters, relays).
- Familiarity with the setup and operation of local area communication networks, including managing user permissions, device connectivity, and troubleshooting common issues.
- Practical skills in installing, testing, and maintaining electrical equipment, including power converters, power supplies, loads, and related power electronic equipment.
- Experience keeping laboratory inventories, organizing equipment, managing software licenses, and ensuring that computers and backup systems are fully operational.
- Ability to assist in the preparation and execution of experiments, including assembling setups, ensuring all elements (hardware, software, drivers) are available and correctly configured, and supporting researchers during tests.
- Awareness of laboratory health, safety, and operational best practices, with commitment to maintaining a professional and safe working environment.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, laboratory protocols, and digital tools as they are introduced in the lab.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in documenting experiment setups, equipment usage, and lab procedures.
- Collaborative mindset; able to work closely with engineers, researchers, and other technicians to ensure smooth lab operations and successful project outcomes.
- Good command of English (spoken and written) is required.
- Knowledge of French, German, or Luxembourgish will be valued.
