About the LCSBThe is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character. The (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of Luxembourg.
We conduct fundamental and translational research in the field of Systems Biology and Biomedicine - in the lab, in the clinic and in silico. We focus on neurodegenerative processes and are especially interested in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and their contributing factors. The LCSB recruits talented scientists from various disciplines: computer scientists, mathematicians, biologists, chemists, engineers, physicists and clinicians from more than 50 countries currently work at the LCSB. We excel because we are truly interdisciplinary, and together we contribute to science and society.Your role
  • Multi-omics data integration and workflow improvement
  • Development and application of machine learning-based algorithms for the identification of antibiotics-associated proteins and antimicrobial peptides
  • Perform and support experimental studies across the METAMIC project, including notably metagenomic sequencing of field study samples (from clinical or environmental use cases)
  • Application of improved workflows in field studies
These tasks will be carried out within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral network METAMIC 3 - Metaproteome-based leveraged microbiome management in the context of One Health. METAMIC 3 is funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe framework programme (Grant Agreement number 101225682).The METAMIC 3 project will embed Doctoral Candidates (DCs) in a unique training environment to advance microbiome science through metaproteomics. The program addresses One Health challenges by integrating research on microbial mechanisms, microbiome dynamics in various ecosystems, and translational applications in clinical and biotech fields. DCs will benefit from expertise across molecular biology, bioinformatics, clinical research, and environmental science, supported by collaborations among academia, industry, and public sector partners. For further details about the overall research project, please contact .Your profile
  • Masters, Diploma or equivalent degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, biology, or similar
  • Experience in structural and functional protein annotation (sequence homology- or protein structure-based)
  • Familiarity with UNIX/LINUX-based operating systems and shared compute infrastructure
  • Proficiency in Python, R, or similar languages for data analysis
  • Proficiency in scientific English (written and spoken) is a must, German and/or French is an advantage
  • Willingness to spend several months at other institutions abroad. The project envisages the following secondments:
  • A three months secondment at ISAS with co-supervisor R. Heyer is planned to exchange on data formats and to be trained to exploit the new version of the MetaProteomeAnalyzer Software
  • A three months secondment at UGENT B. Mesuere is planned to integrate the developed tools
  • A one-month secondment at the Health Inspectorate of the Luxembourg Health Directorate is planned to get insights on public health objectives and activities in the context of the national health strategies
Furthermore, candidates have to fully comply with the following essential eligibility criteria:
  • Academic Qualification: The applicant must hold a relevant master's degree or equivalent and must have obtained the degree or equivalent by the DC start date
  • In order to be recruited to the network as a doctoral candidate, applicants must not already be in possession of a doctoral degree (i.e. a Ph.D. degree)
  • Conditions of international mobility of researchers: researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their recruiting organization for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment
