The Risk Management team's mission is to establish a strong risk culture and implement a programmatic approach to manage and mitigate the risks to which Bitstamp is exposed, to enable the business to grow in a sustainable way and to meet regulators' expectations around independence and risk challenge.As Head of Risk - Bitstamp Group, you will have the primary responsibility for all aspects of enterprise risk management across Bitstamp Group regulated entities in the Second Line of Defense, covering the full spectrum of risks including credit, market, liquidity, and operational risks, and providing effective independence and challenge to decisions which have risk considerations.This role is based in our Luxembourg office, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.At Bitstamp by Robinhood, we believe in the power of in-person work to accelerate progress, spark innovation, and strengthen community. - Act as a Designated Authorized Manager of Bitstamp Europe S.A. which is authorised and regulated as a CASP under MiCAR and as a Payment Institution, with allocated responsibilities for risk management, third party oversight and IT risk oversight.
- Maintain and enhance the risk management framework, ensuring regulatory compliance, and annually update key policies (risk strategy, appetite framework, assessment and control plans) for Board approval.
- Act as a strong voice of challenge on risk exposure, overseeing the design and effectiveness of risk controls.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, including for new products and asset listings, and support ICAAP/ILAAP processes for the MiFID investment firm, Bitstamp Financial Serices d.o.o.
- Deliver clear, comprehensive risk reports to management and the Board.
- Manage the Executive Risk Committee and Board Audit Risk Committee, including preparing all related materials.
- Oversee CSSF risk reporting and maintain effective regulatory engagement.
- Promote a strong risk culture and monitor emerging risks, industry trends, and evolving risk landscapes.
- Lead the 2nd Line Risk Management team with clear objectives and regulatory-aligned training.
- Collaborate across business, risk, and compliance teams globally to ensure a consistent risk management approach.
- 10+ years of experience in risk management within a regulated financial institution (crypto, banking, payments, e-money, or exchange) or in second-line audit/consulting roles. Proven leadership of complex, multi-domain risk programs across regions.
- Experience overseeing internal and external audits and familiarity with crypto industry operations or advisory.
- Strong understanding of CSSF regulatory frameworks relevant to risk management leadership.
- Deep knowledge of the European and global risk landscape, including emerging risk trends.
- Ability to translate complex risk information into clear, actionable guidance aligned with business goals.
- Strategic and creative problem-solver with a risk-based mindset and innovative approach.
- Effective leader with strong hands-on capabilities, able to manage global teams and cross-functional projects.
